Don't know which one to firm! (King's or UCL Pharm)

Hiya, guys!

Yes, another one of those threads!

Sorry :colondollar:

I've got offers from Kingston, UCL and King's for Pharmacy, all are AAB, so I wasn't sure which one to firm and which one to keep as insurance out of UCL and King's

I'm just going to put some background information on both below

King's
+ They said they were the 4th highest uni for Pharmacy on a league table
+ LOVED IT (i saw it on the interview day and I really liked it)
+ It's closer to home, as I plan to commute
+ Unistats appeared to favour King's over UCL too
- Asking for an A in Chem, which is kinda meh, because I got a C last year, but I am resitting the module which messed up my grade last year

UCL
+ Its higher than King's on most league tables
+ Everyone is saying to firm it because they think its better than King's
+ They're not specific on what subject needs be an A, which is great
- Haven't seen it yet, but have tried to book an open day and they still haven't got back to me
- Takes half an hour more to get there

I really don't mind about the social life and etc, because i'll be commuting and I'm not a massive 'socialiser'

Please please help guys, I would really appreciate some advice and guidance

Thaaank youuu :h:

Thanks for the bump, dahl!

Haha, i wanna put King's, but everyone's saying to put UCL!

It doesn't help that they haven't replied to my reply form for UCL open day!

Kings,
UCL is great - I won't lie, but I don't think it has the whole package for an undergrad.

Really? What do you mean by 'whole package for an undergrad'?

Firstly, congrats on the offers! All of those are fantastic universities, don't worry too much about the small differences in employment prospects/ uni rankings - they are likely to change between now and when you graduate anyway...

It sounds like you prefer Kings, the only downside is them requiring an A in Chemistry, but then that's what having an insurance choice is for - a backup in case you miss the grades.

I personally would say firm King's and insure UCL

Thank you! :h:

Mm, that's exactly what I was thinking!

What is the point in league tables anyways?

Thanks again, I think I might just do that! :yep:

They wanted me to come and study there so I was invited to have a taster week there. It was very formal, everything seemed too much for me, I'm only 18, I want the university experience as well as the study life. I personally have firmed. Kings because I feel it is much more 'undergrad' suitable I hope I've helped.

Ahh, I see! Yeah, I definitely feel that King's is more relaxed! Thank you for your help!

Hey  kind of had the same problem, I know a lot of people kinda have the same issue... Right now am kinda with Kings and I have visited UCL just for an informal visit , I had been invited to the UCL open day but didn't go cause I was kind of busy ...But anyways upon visiting I did find UCL & KCL to differ a lot in terms of atmosphere etc.UCL ppl were really nice but I feel that KCL will be more challenging cuz u get to study alongside other students in some aspects of the course so you know its a chance for personal development. They both have their pros & cons so Good luck  & if we go the same uni , see you around
Don't go for the one you think is "better" simply because of league tables. Go for the one that feels right to you, because you are the one who will be spending presumably the next 4 years there. I didn't study Pharmacy, but I can concur that UCL is an amazing university experience.

Mmm, why do you say its 'an amazing university experience'?
Doesn't really make a difference as league table differences are negligible, especially for a course like Pharmacy, where everyone has to learn the same material set out by the GPC for all Pharmacy schools to abide by.

The only things that your decision will boil down to are facilities, students union and what grades you get :s-smilie: .............

You need to find out also how the course is structured for both unis. One uni might offer more placements per year over the other uni, so email the department and ask for this information.

I was on a gap year but had to resit some A-level exams, but I got my AAB in the end, so was in a similar position to you. I had the grades to get into somewhere like Kings/UCL/Nottingham but my firm was Reading so I stuck to my guns and I'm enjoying first year so far :h:

Thanks :hat2:

Reason why I mentioned the placements is because we don't get many placements through our degree. At uni's like UEA and Kings etc, you get put into placements frequently in the first year till fourth year. Reading suck in that respect :colonhash: But still we can arrange placements with pharmacies but that's at our own discretion

How long would your journey be to Kings??

Pharmacy is a very fun degree but it's challenging too. The fact that you enjoy the things you are learning in lectures is what drives you to study well !

I would have actually gone through ucas adjustment but I needed to get away from London as if I would have gone for kings/ucl, then I would be commuting as accommodation is expensive ! :zomg:
