Capital Punishment Survey
As part of my Higher Project Qualification I need to conduct a Survey to get the public's opinion on the important debate of the Death Penalty. My project is based on my question "Is the death penalty a humane punishment for severe crimes?".

Q1) In general, I disagree with the death sentence even for extreme crimes. However, if someone has committed a very severe crime and is still dangerous to those around them whilst in prison, it could be considered. However, I generally disagree with it and the rare circumstances that I would agree with it would be for terrorists. Also, if someone is executed they have no opportunity to reform. There is also the risk of an innocent person being executed etc.
Q2) No, I do not believe the death penalty should cause pain to the prisoner. They are having their life taken away, a severe punishment and they should not be made to suffer through this. If they are going to be executed, they should be allowed to go peacefully, no matter what crime they have committed.
Q3) Lethal injection.
Q4) I don't think that it is right to have public hangings. If someone is being executed I think they should have the write to privacy, even if they have committed a horrific crime. I also believe that execution isn't something we should make an event of.
Q5) I think it depends on the circumstances. With life imprisonment, people have the opportunity to change and life the rest of their life, however restricted it is and they can make amendments. With the death penalty this is not possible and I do not think this is right. However, many would think that in some prisons the conditions for life imprisonment are much worse than death; it depends on the circumstances.
Q6) It depends on the circumstances. It can prevent some people from committing crimes but this is not always the case. Also I read an article about a prisoner killing another prisoner because they wanted to go on death row and this was the only way it would be possible. It depends on the person.
Q7) See answer for Q1. I do not think the death penalty should be used for most crimes. I am not sure why but I have always felt this way.
Q8) I disagree with these extreme methods. I think if you are going to be executed it should be humane and you should be allowed to go quickly and without pain.
I do not want to cause any offense with these answers they are purely my opinions at the moment, they often change.

Yes, but their imprisonment beyond ten years should be due to a risk they present to society, and not a desire to get revenge.

Only repeat crimes.

It shouldn't be used at all, but definitely not for less severe crimes than murder and violent rape.

1) Yes: homosexuality, adultery, murder.
2) No there doesn't need to be anymore pain inflicted on these people.
3) Having their head chopped off.
4) Good way to get the locals to stop commiting crimes.
5) No. Costs money & it's worse for the prisoner who lives a boring life.
6) Yes and I think that's the reason Middle Eastern countries have such low crime rate.
7) No.
8) I don't agree with stoning at all, it sounds horrendous...

We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Give me five bees for a quarter, you'd say.
Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones
