How much did you spend on your first car?

The other thread got me thinking

How much did you spend on your first car?
What car was it?
Did you spend a bit less than your budget could because you wanted to "upgrade " later

I won't answer as I'm an outlier for general UK (but not so much for my area)

£100.

I got a 10 year old Skoda Felicia with 30K on the clock.

Brilliant car, did 20,000 in it and sold it 6 months later for £600 :colone:

I'd intended to get something around a grand but when a bargain like that falls into your lap, it's impossible to resist. In general, I'd advise people not to break the bank for their first car, as the learning curve is generally pretty steep when you first pass and you can get something after a year that'd be a bit more difficult to insure after first passing your test. Naturally, the dings and scrapes that most people have when starting out don't tend to matter as much either.

The bloke who owned it died.

His widow was a family friend and as they rented their garage, she just wanted shot of it without the hassle of trying to sell a car as well as sort her estate/funeral out.

He was a good chap as well, and regularly waxed and serviced the car.

The thing is, I imagine even without the unfortunate circumstances, I could have picked up a car in equally good nick for under £500 as it looked rather dated and unappealing to most buyers.

I remember when I came to sell it that one woman drove it (no power steering) and just got out and said ''No, no, no, no, maybe I'd have brought this in the 70s, but now, never'' :colondollar:

and I will answer after all

26,000£ bmw 3 series auto , 9 miles

this was with dealer discount, essentially made the auto option free

about 700 quid for a Renault Clio 2000

was immaculate inside and out (1 previous user who barely ever used it), I kept it for about 2 years before I could afford something a little better

I paid £1700 for my first car.
It was a w reg fiat punto.

I wasnt going to spend that much, but with the scrappage scheme, most second hand cars where expensive. Even rust buckets where expensive.

Just shows that cars can do mega miles.
How long did you keep it and how many miles had it done when you got rid?

Kept it for a year and sold it last year when it had like 143000-ish on it.

Mechanically it was fine. Still showing up as insured so it's still going.

Reckon you could get 200000 out of that car. It was just the rust that was starting to become a problem. Needed new sills really.

My last car was a nissan micra and i swear it was bomb proof.
Nothing ever went wrong with it.
I only got rid because i wanted something newer and i regret getting rid ever since.
