1) Ni2+ + 2e- = Ni E= -0.25V 2) Fe3+ + e = Fe2+ E=+0.77V 3) Cr3+ + 3e = Cr E= -0.74V What would be the sign of the Ni electrode of a cell based on redox system 1 and 2. What would be the sign of the Ni electrode of a cell based on redox system 1 and 3. Can someone explain by referring to this question in detail how to predict the sign of electrode based on redox equations. I know the stuff about the equilibrium oxidation/reduction and loss/gain of electrons likewise first part equilibrium lies to the left and the Nickel loses electrons hence oxidises but how can I predict what the sign of the Ni electrode using this information.

cell 2 has a larger potential than cell 1, what does that tell you?
