yeh you can buy special ones which help stop your skin from thinking its dry and then over greasing and causing spots

Cleansing and toning help clear the build up of bacteria and grime on your face, moisturiser just moisturises.
Edit: didn't read the title right and as the above poster said, getting the correct moisturiser does help your skin. I mean you wouldn't buy a oily one if you had oily skin.

TRY THIS

The above is amazing. You only need a little. Contains anti-inflammatories which reduced redness and really helps the skin. Removed my brothers acne big time.

not all moisturisers. plenty of regular moisturisers contian oil which actually induces spots. buy an oil-free moisturiser and you should be ok. toners work quite well and some topical medicines. try to drink loads and loads of water, eat healthily and sleep lots: the best skin cure for sure.

well not all does. sometimes it makes it worse if you lather it on
try a cream that contains calcium fluoratum in it. it works miricles. but like said dont lather it on. and use proper lotion if you must...like face lotion for the face etc. duh. try oil of olay for mosturizer. i use both and it works wonderfully
also use a face wash or whatever. but dont scrub the skin as you will iritate it that way. be gentle.
and if you have a really bad spot, ive heard that if you use a cutip with some disinfection and dab it on it will help. however that really drys your skin out so be careful.
hope this helps.

Clean and Clear moisturiser is said to be quite good - though I don't really have trouble with spots except at that time of the month, so I couldn't say.

I used to have very bad acne, it's gotten better.

But I used a medicated Pimple Cream, which contains tea tree oils, it's buy a company called Luron. Does help with the rare bad spots.

But for old spot marks (not imflammed red spots), i use Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula...it's good for dry skin, so i use it before doing to sleep. And it actually does smooth our marks and scars. My Mum used it after an operation on her neck, and after a few months of use...the scar is very faint.

Do all the common sense things, eat fruits...drink weater (but dont drown yourself!), and wash your face often...especially when you sweat from sports.

I agree.

If I ever get spots [which is rare, obviously], I use the warming mineral mask from the Body Shop. It's heaven and works well. I use it twice a week anyway.

Don't wash your face TOO often though, it dries out the skin and causes more problems!

Make sure you are drinking enough water (if you aren’t) and you are washing your face at night before you go to sleep.
Some people get spots as they don’t change their bed sheets regularly or they use hair products which transfer onto their pillow case and ends up irritating their skin. Stress can sometimes be a factor.

I've recently tried the warm salt water thing which I think is working. Add warm salt water to spot areas and then leave to dry till the salt dries, then wash it off. Then I put some clearsil on it. But even though it makes my skin smoother, I wouldn't say it visbily reduces the red-ness. Any economic ways of doing this?

aqueous cream, which is effectively a barebones moisturiser, just water in a cream pretty much can help as it is used as a topical skin cleanser. You can buy it anywhere for pittance. For someone like me, who tends not to get many spots, but does have extremely mild and potentially dry skin, its perfect. Its pretty much the only thing that won't make my face an angry satan-esque hue.

toothpaste! put some toothpaste on it. but moisturise afterwards because it pulls all the nutrients and bad stuff too out of your skin.
it also stings and don't put it under your eyes because the vapour hurts,

Drink water, eat fruit and do some exercise.

Nooooo! don't dry the spot out - by toothpaste or any other way. That reduces the redness for a couple of days, but doesn't get rid of the spot at all.

Just clease and moisturise, paying extra attention to the spot area. If its really bad, go to see a pharmacist at somewhere like boots. Clean and Clear is meant to be absolutely fantastic for dealing with spots.
