Hey, I have a number of points to make.

First of all, I havent got a clue about the Oxford and Cambridge policy for choosing students, and maybe they discriminate against northeners, maybe they dont.

I'm from down south (buckinghamshire to be precise), and i just want to say that a lot of you on here have very misguided views. Very few people I know are anything like the "southern softie" stereotype person that a lot of you are painting us out to be. Not everyone is rich, and trust me, a hell of a lot of people (myself included) dont go to private schools. I dont even know anyone who goes to one.

So dont give me all this "Im so spoilt...mummy and daddy paid for my education" rubbish, because most of it is just not true. Also, Ive been to Newcastle and im still alive! (Gr8 place by the way).

I guess the point im trying to make is that you accuse Cambridge and Oxford of being predjudiced against northerners, when many of you are just as predjudice towards northerners.

PS Leekey, I support Liverpool too, and dont worry about Heskey, It'll be Owen and Baros up front next season!!

I agree with what you said in the last post and everything. Im am just posting to piss Leekey off.

Next time he comes on, please ask him where K -the bird he's trying to get in wiv- is from. I think you will enjoy the answer as she is pretty much as southern as you can get. If you read this Leekey Im sorry mate but you should stop aving a go at southerners.

I don't know whether they discriminate against northerners or not, but an Oxford tutor apparently remarked "You're a bit brainy for a northerner, aren't you?" to a girl I know. She turned down their offer.

im from the north (liverpool sort of area) and i got in. loads of my friends didnt though and they are WAY cleverer and more into their subjects than me.

its mostly how u project urself on the day, and also what ur personal statements like. i did pretty bad in the interview but my personal statement was pretty good so i got pooled.

its really subjective though. i dont agree that they discriminate at all, for one thing there are loads of incentives to take northern state school girls and for anotherthey just want ppl who r interested and going to do well.

2 ppl got in from my local private school and like 10 from the state school.

what can u expect tho when so many ppl apply? how hard would u find it to pick who stays& who goes?

I know quite a few people at both Oxford and Cambridge, and the interview is where it's at basically. I was skeptical when reading this thread due to the classist views people think Oxbridge have. Obviously I'd like to think that people get accepted on their academic and extracurricular merit. However due to the murky world of todays politics everything isn't that simple.

One thing as a conclusion for you nervous people is that all the people I know that applied with 4/5As and were rejected, all had one thing in common... Doing terrible in the interview.

I know it sounds cheesey, but if they like your brain you're a winner. It's that simple.
