Hi

There's always this really annoying question that I NEVER know how to answer. Its on the jan 2013 paper for Chem 1 and its:

The following table gives the successive ionisation energies of an element in period 3. then the values:
1st: 786
2nd: 1580
3rd: 3230
4th: 4360
5th: 16 100
6th: 19800

then the question asks to identify this element.
All help would be appreciated thanks

Where's the largest jump in ionisation energies? The value on the lower end of the jump will give the group the element is in.

If you want an explanation as to why I can provide one or you can see if you can work it out yourself.

aaah okay so largest jump is between 4th and 5th ionisation energies. so its a group 4 element, this makes sense. ahh so period 3 so will be silicon
