Maria Miller resigns as culture secretary but has she really got away with it?

So Maria Miller has resigned but only as culture secretary- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-26951464

But is this enough? it appears she got off very lightly considering other previous MP's have had police investigations and even ended up in prison for fiddling expenses.

She only has to repay £5800 out of the £45,000 she 'mistakenly' took (I use the term mistake very loosely). So she has made thousands of pounds off of it, she is still an MP and I expect will be back in the Tory Cabinet or shadow cabinet after the next election.

Yeah, I think she has gotten away with it somewhat if it doesn't go much further than this. I guess part of this resignation is to try and save her chances of regaining her constituency seat come 2015. Seems a fairly safe tory seat but letting the story run for longer might have lost her it.

Maybe there's a bit of her being pushed by other MPs too? Takes the sting out of the story and all parties can continue self regulating with such leniency as this instance.
Maria Miller is laughing all the way to her new Tudor barn conversion.

What I don't get is why the Tories handled this the way they did. Did they learn nothing from the expenses scandal? Cameron should of sacked her/forced her to resign straight away to demonstrate that he would not tolerate this. Instead he went into PR damage limitation mode and hoped that negative headlines would disappear after a couple of days. It backfired badly.

As for Maria Miller, her passive aggressive resignation letter makes it sound like she is blaming those nasty journalists and really has no sense of contrition. I can see why she became a politician.

To make matters even better for Maria Miller she is entitled to £17,000 redundancy as well

So she got £40,000 of taxpayer money, another £17,000 of taxpayer money and kept her MP seat that'll teach her

Pathetic
She shouldn't have been allowed to resign, she should have been fired as well as being forced to pay back every penny.
