do u think England would qualify from Group 2 if they were in it? Even the 4th placed team in Group 2 can thrash them 4-1

Don't see why not. I'm more interested about our line-up vs. N Ireland tbh.

I think it'll probably be the same but with Owen replacing SWP in a 4-4-2

Or maybe it'll be Joe Cole who's replaced by Owen

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...341752&cc=5739

They say a 4-3-3, but isn't it still a 4-5-1? (not that there's all that much difference)

basically its what chelski and man utd do, 4-5-1 defensive and then 4-3-3 when they attack.

I can't explain it either. Maybe because of Sven's inclination to experiment in WC qualifiers rather than in friendlies?

It's not like he'll be asked to stay on the touchline. Rooney will probably be left free to probe behind Owen - similar to the MUSA set up. Rooney as a lone striker is a waste, and by playing a specialist striker up front in Owen will allow Rooney to play the game he plays. Our width will be damaged, but it gives the opportunity for our fullbacks-***-wingbacks to tear up the pitch, provided that Beckham stays disciplined. SWP had better not drift infield though, or there'll be no room for Lampard & Gerrard to manoeuvre.

Looks like Sven has caught the bug that is the 433/451, would have much preferred to see him revert back to 442. It could work quite well tho with Owen at the top and Rooney in much more of a playmaking role. Good to see that Wright Phillips keeps his place aswell, played much better than Cole! I'd like to see Sven try a 532 in a friendly sumtime, using 2 wingbacks, I think it would work wonders against a top quality team such as Brazil

That would definitely be worth a try. Left side of midfield not such a problem then. Chances are he will use it against Brazil, but probably at the World Cup without trying it out in a friendly first.

Isn't that like his job or er, something? Y'know, getting Wales to win, rather stopping England's qualification?

Yeah obviously, but surely if you could stop your rivals from qualifying by losing to their main competition, and the result doesn't really make a difference for you, you'd be pleased too

Yeah but so far it's only worked very well for Chelsea.
