On a gap year, still entitled to FREE prescriptions etc

Just wondered whether we are still entitled to free dentist/optician/doctors, because if you're on a gap year you're no longer in full time education! Does this mean we have to start paying for things like the pill etc!!? Seems really crazy, but if you're over 18 and NOT in full time education i'm not sure we're even entitled to free prescriptions anymore!!? Does anyone know?

Don't think you are entitled automatically. You'll have to fill out the HC1 form to get a HC2 certificate (a special certificate you're entitled to if you earn below a certain amount and don't have more than £8000 [i think] of savings)

You will always be able to get free contraception because that's exempt from payment (and has a special box for you to tick)

Have a look at this: http://www.dh.gov.uk/PolicyAndGuidance/MedicinesPharmacyAndIndustry/Prescriptions/NHSCosts/NHSCostsArticle/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=4049391&chk=qoqspx
You can get a form from your dentist or doctor quite easily and might be able to do it online. In the mean time, get a recipt for your prescriptions cause you can claim it back if you turn out to be entitled.
Thanks Blissy! xx
