German question!

Wondering what this means:
'Hast du vor, Kinder zu haben?'
- Does it mean, have you thought about having children?
Or do you want to have children (or something)?

Also, does this sentence make sense?
Leute erwarten eine Mutti-Vati-Kind Familie zu haben in die Zukunft.
The word order sounds really bad... Should the 'Zukunft' part go to the beginning? We have been told about the TMP (Time, Manner, Place) sentence structure so I think maybe the 'Zukunft' should go there.

can mean both

Leute erwarten in der Zukunft eine mutti-v.-k
Familie zu haben
or
in der Zukunft erwarten Leute eine m.v.k.
Familie zu haben

It means 'do you plan to have children?'. Vorhaben means 'to intend to'.

'in die Zukunft' should be 'in der Zukunft' because Zukunft is in the dative case. I don't think it should go at the start because then it would shift erwarten into the future tense as well (making it 'in the future people will expect...'), but you're right in thinking it shouldn't go at the end. The proper word for Mutt-Vati-Kind Familie is Kernfamilie by the way. Also I'm not sure if you can use 'erwarten zu [VERB]', but someone better at German than me might know.

So really 'Leute erwarten, dass sie in der Zukunft eine Kernfamilie haben werden' is better. If you were trying to say 'in the future people will expect to have a nuclear family' then it should be 'In der Zukunft, werden Leute erwarten, dass sie eine Kernfamilie haben werden'.

there are always 1001 ways to express one's thoughts:

'Hast du vor Kinder zu haben?'

Do you intend to have kids?
Are you contemplating to have kids?
...

have you thought about having children - hast du darüber nachgedacht Kinder zu haben
do you want to have children - möchtest du Kinder haben

Leute erwarten eine Mutti-Vati-Kind Familie zu haben in die Zukunft.

if I were to express that thought, I'd say: Die Leute erwarten, dass auch in der Zukunft eine Familie aus Mutter, Vater und Kind besteht. (People expect that a family is constituted of father, mother and child in the future, too.
but I'm not sure if I got your meaning right.
