Not sure if my girlfriend really likes it but that's not the point - we use it as a form of punishment in our relationship.

I don't think so. As far i no most women doesn't like anal sex. Few of them can like anal sex but it is only their personal choice.
Is getting tied up enjoyable? How about getting your hair pulled? Being handcuffed? Being called filthy names? Getting throat ****ed? Being bitten or scratched?

Well, this is where you're wrong. The anus has a high concentration of nerve endings, meaning there is plenty of stimulation and pleasure for the recipient in anal sex. There's even an anal g-spot

What matters more is how it's done. If you use lube, no one's going to find anything painful. If you don't use some form of lube, then yes, it will hurt.

Exactly, it differs person to person. Most of my friends wouldn't even consider any of the things listed above and would be horrified that I actually enjoyed them.

Oh my. Really? Men have the prostate gland that can be stimulated during anal sex and apparently feels amazing. Women do not have a prostate gland, or any equivalent in the anus. Significant difference right there.
