No one is calling for an invasion of Russia. At least in a practical capacity.

However, NATO and the Americans have been planning for war with Russia since 1945. I think they'll be smart enough to invade in springtime, advance until winter, then hold and build a defensive line, and wait for spring, and repeat until the Stars and Stripes are flying over Vladivostok.

That's assuming nukes are off the table, of course.

NATO doctrine was entirely defensive, and was centred around defending Germany - not invading the Soviet Union.

No-one wants to invade Russia. It's pointless.

Who? us? the UK? I dont think we can hold a candle to Russia anymore anyway...
It's pretty clear that the Russians have next to no capability. Their armed forces aren't going to have much in the way of experienced officers or NCOs. NATO forces on the other hand are jam-packed with veterans.

Politically, however, there is zero-appetite for any kind of conflict. It would be a proper shooting war, the kind of which no-on has experienced since Korea. Scale of casualties would be immense, and it would basically be a race to see who runs out of logs and pilots first.

I am glad there is no appetite, I don't see what we have do with Russia's problems.
It's not really Russia's problems, though is it? It's Ukraine's problems - they're the ones being forcibly annexed.

No different from Korea. If North Korea started an invasion tomorrow - we could all say "not our problem" but that would hardly be the point, would it?

Thats true but if the situation was reversed and England annexed Ireland or something, do you think Russia would want any part?
That's not really the same thing. Russia has no political or economic interest in Ireland.

If, during the Cold War, Ireland had declared itself a Socialist Republic based on Marxist-Leninist principles, you can bet the Soviets would have wanted a part.

Today, it's no big deal. If for some crazy reason the UK did invade Ireland, the EU and NATO would be there to sort it out. There is no-one to sort out Iraq invading Kuwait or North Korea invading South Korea - which is why you (rightly or wrongly) get all these American led UN forces.

Well the Russian military intervention was soley for the purpose of protecting ethnic Russians, and after all they had a refurendum in which the people voted to join Russia. Like the coup in Ukraine is any more rightous than the Crimean refurendum.
Crimea has just under 2 million citizens, the death toll of a war with russia would far exceed that count, never mind the fact that the nuclear deterrents make it impossible for there to be a 'winner' rendering a war pointless.

Out of curiosity, do you get your information from the corporate owned western media? Or the speeches made by corrupt officials such as Kerry and Hague?

No, I don't. **** Kerry.

Ironically, just swap 'Corporate owned western media' to 'State-owned Russian media' and corrupt officials to 'the Russian Foreign Ministry' and there's your source of information.

I don't think that America and the West is awesome cos freedom and stuff, but Russia is still the same as it ever was, an imperialist and authoritarian **** hole, with leaders that just get worse and worse.
