I am a real fan of classical music, in fact it is the only genre I listen to, however out of all the people in my school I am the only person who is so obsessed! I know only one other person who likes classical music to the same extent as I do.
What do you guys think of it?

I have found that while most people are enthused by a more modern genre like pop/rock/dub-step, everyone will be able to appreciate classical music. I find myself in this category too, and are more than happy to sit through listening to classical music for hours and hours, yet I won't be the one who screams my appreciation from the rooftops.

Ah it's great although people fail to realise that, just as with modern music there are good and bad songs, in classical there are good and bad pieces.

I listen to it, but avoid talking about it (ignoring right now
) because I wouldn't want people to think I am pretentious
I am really open about how much Hip Hop I listen to though

I listen to classical music, mainly piano (as that is the instrument that I play). I do occasionally listen to pieces on other instruments, like Bach's Chaconne.

That is one of the issues with classical music, people will quickly label you as pretentious if you like it, this puts of so many from even listening to it in the first place. I think it is such a shame that you feel that you need to hide your own music tastes out of fear as being labelled pretentious...

Absolutely love Classical Music, and Baroque, and Romantic music..and opera as well.
I listen to it just before bed usually when I know I won't be disturbed and I can let the music fully affect me. But like the OP I do feel like I'm the only one who seems to appreciate it. If someone does tell me that they like it, then they usually list the obvious choices, which is fair enough but still. It would be good to meet people who have a real interest, not just in the music itself but the history behind it, because the composers themselves had such interesting lives.

lol the moment you start caring about what people think about your likes/interests/music taste/dress sense, and don't grow out of it. Is the moment you fail at life imo.

Not really that much of a fan of Classical, I prefer Baroque and Romantic (although I guess we're talking about Classical music rather than the period
)

I don't listen to that much straight classical, normally piano/orchestral covers of anime/video game themes but some of them are really good

Yes exactly! I also wish I knew more people who took a genuine interest and learnt about the composers themselves, as it adds so much context to the music and really lets you understand it on a whole new level. There are certain composers, like Shostakovich, whose music means nothing without knowing about the situation in which he was composing, and then you find that his music tells you more about him and his life than any biography that I have ever read about him. You don't get that with modern music...
