I read on the news that the conservatives are trialling 1 in 8 GP opening 8am-8pm seven days a week but have only provided 1 year worth of money.

I dont think the idea is very new. It has been tried before walk-in centres. Walk-in centres did not work and most have either closed or only open out of hours as a base for the out of hours service.

How is this plan different ? Do you think it will work ?

More GP are being trained, but GP are retiring and a lot of the new doctors are women who plan to only work part-time, so I dont think there will be more GP for some years.

I think they are trying fewer practices - but I have yet to see a ' polyclinic ' yet.
