Telling people you don't want to spend time with them?!?!

I like spending time with kids and like to entertain them when they come round to my house and make them have fun :cool:

Unfortunately this makes them want to come and see me all the time!! I don't mind if their parents come and visit my parents and I play with them - it's just when they want to come over on purpose to see me.

Don't get me wrong love kids but I just don't want my social life to be dominated by "babysitting"

A mother of a child came round to collect her 10 year-old son from my house and he said he was having a good time :smile:

can he come round again during the summer?

And he lives really close so I know he will come very often,

I was like yeah of course (being polite) but really I don't want to be best-friends with loads of little kids!! I know this sounds mean but its how I feel!

My sister says it's a vibe I give off and that's why I keep attracting little kids, I just want them to have a good time not sign-up for an 18-year childcare contract!

What can I do?

p.s. I realise it sounds silly!

Hi there,

Had a similar problem to you - had people 'using' me when I was babysitting. They'd ask me to babysit for them once, then use me 6/7 times a week, also giving my details to distant friends of theirs... Drove me barmy!

In the end I had to be really strict and say 'no,' as my school work and music practise would suffer (at least, that was my excuse). They should be understanding about it if you're nice :smile:

Don't let them take advantage of you though - be nice but firm. Shouldn't be a problem at all

go out or do say youre not going to be in next time they ask so they realise you do do other stuff other than look after their kids

Just be strong and say no, or if you feel bad say no not today or tomorrow but i can do next week for an hour

The thing is... I can't say no to the kids.... they are just visiting me, I can't say "NO, You can't visit me"!

You sound sooo familiar.

Just tell them that you don't mind doing it randomly but they can't just call on you when they want. Be strong and say no, they'll understand. :smile:
