Does anyone know if any PE shops hire straight out of uni? Realistically I wont be competing for the megafunds (BX, Apollo, etc) but I would be aiming for something mid market. I have some internship experience in IB and I have a PE internship during the summer. I sort of wrote off applying for PE straight out of uni and taking a chance down the IBD route but just wondering if anyone has heard of grads starting in PE?

Yes, Terra Firma have a grad scheme and they take a handful of grads each year/2 years afaik. Looking at the profiles of the guys on their grad scheme, there's nothing spectacular about most of the guys they hire (at lest relative to the average candidate on FO grad programmes)

Blackstone and Silver Lake also recruit out of undergrad, but they take like 1, maximum 2 people per year, and you do have to be fairly "spectacular" to land those positions (eg. for undergrad seems Silver Lake only consider you if you summer interned at GS or another big PE firm, and if you got a return offer)

Thanks for the responses guys. I was thinking the same looking at the profiles for Terra Firma grads. I don't think my background will suffice for BX for Silverlake as I'm only at semi-target and my work experience is in a MM PE and IBD. Just going to keep networking and see where I get, seems to have been the best method for me so far.

Apollo is recruiting for summer at the moment, 1-2 positions for the London office.

Might be of interest, you won't get a return offer for FT but should make the transition to another megafund easier.

Very challenging straight out of uni, and I daresay you probably learn a better fundamental skill set by starting in IBD.
