Simple explanation - nipples on a woman are seen by society as part of sexual attributes, and nipples on a man are not because they are not a significant part of his sexual development.

So what should society "grow up" out of in your opinion? Maybe we should go back to the caveman age and walk around naked again, with no shame - I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing with this, but ignoring societal standards of decency in clothing essentially comes down to the stone age style of clothing (that is, the absence of clothing which is not necessary for survival - something modern-day society obviously doesn't agree with or follow).
