Northern Farmer is basically about a guy who tells his dad that he is in love with the parson's son and wants to marry her. However, her father objects to this as she is poor, telling his son to marry for money. A Quaker that randomly appears tells the boy to try to fall in love with a girl who has money, but not marry her just because she's rich. The father tells his son that he married his mum for money and he's happy. The poem basically ends with the father telling the boy that if he marries a rich girl he will inherit his father's land, however, if he marries poorly his father will give the land to his brother. This is seen as greed as the father is telling the boy to ignore love and marry for wealth and personal gain, and the boy can be seen as materialistic as he is being bribed by his father's land. The 'proputty' thing throughout is symbolic of the actual word 'property' as well as the sound that the horses' hooves are making as the father and son ride along.

The Golden Year I am not too sure about, but my teacher told us that it was about the Irish potato famine told from three different perspectives, arguing whether the golden year was in the past, the present or the future. But I'm not too sure, sorry! I hope this helps!
