# Need help with multiplying fractions Watch

1. Hello. I am finding SAM Learnings wording a bit difficult to understand. Could someone give me a question

E.g 1/2 x 2/3

LCM= 6

1x6= 6
2x6= 12

2x6=12
3x6=12 (or 1)

Then..

I'm not sure if I worked this out correctly but could you please explain?

If you are trying to work out

then you do not need to worry about LCMs - just follow the usual rules for multiplying fractions and then look for any cancellations you can make

(if you are confident with multiplications then you can look for cancellations first to simplify things, but you may not want to do this at first if you are unsure)
3. Just incase you don't know the rule for multiplying fractions:

Example
(NOTE: I've used a different example to you so you can see what numbers are being used, instead of having two 2s.)

Your method looks like you are trying to calculate :
instead of multiplying.
4. Just multiply the numerator and denominator seperately.

N.B. when changing the numbers for an example, make sure you change your answer as well so that it is correct

EEEK!
I can't believe I did that. I remember thinking to myself "make sure you write 15" I've changed it now . Thank you!
