The Google definition and hundreds of examples just aren't allowing me to comprehend what the term ad hoc means... Can someone please take the time to explain it to me with great, and simple detail please?

As far as I know... when I use it in my science reports (bsc psych) - it is to carry out something for a specific reason.

ad hoc:

  • created or done for a particular purpose as necessary.
"the discussions were on an ad hoc basis"[

Do you mean 'ad hoc'?

I believe it literally means 'to this', 'this' implying 'only this particular thing'. The first definition I found on google was 'for a particular purpose only'. So, it can refer to arrangements made for a particular event, particularly if an exception to the general rule or procedure, (so arrangements on an 'ad hoc basis', as above,) arguments which you wouldn't usually use but are relying on for this particular point ('ad hoc justifications'), etc.

Yeah I did mean ad hoc >.< sorry! Typo, my screen is so tiny and high resolution!

Thanks for the definition, but it was sadly a little complex for my tired mind.

The others were great and simple enough though, thanks!
