Your England XI for the World Cup Watch

So, I want you to name your England XI for the World Cup game against Italy. I also want you to name the formation along with it (even if it's not realistic - you have to act like you're Roy Hodgson right now). Full squad list is optional.

    My England XI:

    --------Rooney--------Sturridge---------
    ---------------Sterling------------------
    ----Lallana-------------Henderson/AOC--
    ---------------Gerrard-------------------
    Baines----Jagielka------Cahill-----Johnson
    -----------------Hart-----------------------

I hope you can see the formation clearly there, it's a 4-1-2-1-2 (diamond) formation that Liverpool regularly use.

My England XI is pretty simple, but rather unrealistic because Roy Hodgson is a rather defensive coach. I picked this formation because the England XI contains mainly Liverpool players, who have been playing brilliantly this season, so why not use the same system as Liverpool? Pace on the counter attack is key here. Yes, we are going to concede goals, but the truth is, we're not going to win the World Cup, so we might as well go all out and show some attacking play.

I've decided to play Rooney up front with Sturridge because Rooney is NOT an AM.

Against a good team, I reckon Hodgson will likely play defensively to avoid England getting torn apart like they did against Germany in the last World Cup and just hope for counter attacks open opportunities

    Hart
    Cole
    Jagielka
    Cahill
    Walker
    Gerrard
    Carrick
    Milner
    Sterling
    Rooney
    Sturridge

    I'd play a 4-2-3-1:

    Hart
    Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines
    Henderson Gerrard
    Oxlade, Barkley, Sterling
    Sturridge

At CB, it's not impossible to consider John Stones starting. Jagielka has been out for a while now, not sure when he's coming back. Stones is inexperienced but he might have the edge in terms of fitness.

As I see it, Rooney is getting dropped. Sturridge has been more lethal this season and I think there are players that can offer more than Rooney from that AM position. Rooney's main attribute from there is the long ball out wide to wingers, but Gerrard can do that just as well as Rooney can, so that's no reason to have him in the team.

    4-3-3 brah

    Sturridge
    The Ox -------- Sterling

    Lallana Hendo
    Gerrard

    Baines Jagielka Cahill Johnson

    Hart

I decided to put all the LFC players on the right-hand side... so that they can link up n stuff.

He shouldn't be, but he will be. After all, the England team is picked on reputation and not form.

Side actually has a vague semblance of balance to it. People will hate on me for including Bayern Munich slayer, but they don't understand knockout football. Arguably drop him for the joke team we face (Costa Rica?).

If you don't have Rooney in your team you're clueless.

I'd match the OP team! First time I've ever said that.

Disagree. If you don't have him in your squad, you're clueless but having Rooney in the side seems to make the team worse overall since he seems to upset the balance in the side.
