    Hey guys

I am a student and I get ESA (arouund 4-6 weeks ago) I have automatically been assessed as having a limited capability to work due to receiving DLA.

My question is, do i have to undergo 13 weeks reduced pay or will i get the extra component back paid to day 1 once i have been put into a group?

    Thank you

    They won't:
For the first 13 weeks, you get the basic amount. You are then assessed and put into a group. If this is after week 13, the difference between the basic allowance and the component you've been awarded, is backdated to week 13.

This is what I thought, and that the Severe Disability Premium is not backdated to week 1 (only backdated to week 13). However, I've been told that the Severe Disability Premium is paid from week 1, or at least backdated to week 1, providing the claimant is eligible.

I've recently needed to close my JSA claim and claim ESA instead as I've had my third period of sickness. I hope the SDP premium is backdated otherwise I've been financially disadvantaged. It would mean I receive only £75 (ish) for these first 13 weeks of ESA, rather than the £160 I was receiving in JSA.
