Do most LSE students have their student account with Natwest because there is a Natwest branch on campus??

The thing is that Natwest give a 5 year young persons railcard which i am not really going to need/use because i live near london and can get to uni via the london underground and british rail.

Is it easier to have a student account with Natwest?? Please advice.

If you use British Rail you'll be using a railcard...

Also, I'd have thought that the distance between the cash machine and your accomodation is more important.

It probably doesn't matter, since most cash points don't charge at the moment. On the other hand, I didn't hear very many good things about that particular Natwest this year (they were being pretty awful for international students at the start of the year) and you might be best off opening your account some place that isn't going to be mobbed by every other new student in the world (i.e. Natwest's probably fine, just avoid the branches that are going to get too many students if you want to save time!).

Hey, I am being inundated with letters from ucas regarding various banks. im a little confused by it all, so im just sticking with HSBC, which is where my account is with at the moment. they all offer around the same perks i think?? i think im right lol, please correct me if im wrong! most banks will have atms everywhere as its central london, and most u can use cards from different banks too! hope this helped, if not sorry! lol xxx

Yup on there being cash points all over the place. There's an HSBC down on the Strand, 2 minutes walk from school.
I'm just planning to go to HSBC as there are branches in the UK and the US.

Just remember, international students, that you don't get overdrafts! Above advice is only for home students! (although, where the EU falls, I'm not entirely sure)
Reply 7
No, that's ok! It's perfectly sound advice for home students!

get in there early and they will turnaround in a matter of days. begining of uni year is always a major headache for all involved so take all neccesary documents with you, proof of id, address, home bank statements, passport, uni accept letter, and get your ass in the bank asap. also may help by setting up your a/c with a non campus branch, maybe closer to your accomodation as they will be less choc-a-bloc.

don't forget that you need to print off your certificate of enrollment from LSEforYou and have it endorsed at student services. International students, you have to sign-up online first, then go to the branch once a packet comes in the mail. Setting up my account was easy; my friend's took four months.

For international students, do you have to sign up online for all banks and wait for the pack?

That's a good question. You did for HSBC, but I didn't actually check on the others, having decided where I wanted to open the account. I wouldn't be surprised, but I can't say for sure. Sorry!

This year HSBCs charging 5 pounds a month for an international student account!! insane.

i know barclays is providing a free international student bank account.
anyone read about natwest?
cant seem to find their international student account.
their student accounts all require applicants to be a perm UK resident

for natwest as long as you show that you are going to be staying in residenc e in the uk like your accomodation agreement or something they can open a bank account for you and i think that theres no charge
