    Hi Mike.

I'm travelling on the Sunday too! Getting pretty nervous now but am trying to get a lot of preparation in.

The main things I'm worried about is the 5min presentation, from what I've read on previous forums it's about yourself apparently (have you heard the same or different?). I've also spent a lot of time researching the history of the RAF Fire and Rescue Service as we have a written assignment on that. Other than that being doing a lot of exercise and practicing hose rolling (definitely about technique!) and bleep tests.

What have you been doing to get ready for the specialist interview?

Hi Brett, yeah am getting quite nervous too but won't be too bad I hope.

Was told by AFCO a few days ago that presentation is 5 minutes about yourself. Have also been doing a fair bit of revision on fire and rescue and history but is quite vague as not too sure what questions will be like.

Also managed to get down local fire station hose running and ladder climbing, agree that is all in technique!

Good to hear from you, where are you from?

    Hi Mike!

Yeah, I'm sure we will all be fine when we get down to Manston.

I know what you mean, have found out some dates and where the fire training was stationed over the yrs but nothing more really. My e mail said they give you some revision notes to revise from, so hopefully that will provide more insight. Is it a written test on the fire service or an exam?

Thanks, that puts my mind at ease over the presentation. Spoke to my AFCO staff and they knew nothing about it!

My friend is in the fire service and put me through the national fire service test on Saturday, just so you know the cages are nothing to worry about! That's great you've got some hose running in.

I'm from Lincoln mate, how about yourself?

Hi there how are you doing? I am going down on the same dates and traveling from Sheffield. Do you know any of the pass rates? ie for hose running or bleep test? Thank you Jonny

    Hi Jonny,

Have read that the hose running is a pass rate of six times in 8 mins. As for the bleep test think it's 9.10

Hope that helps! You been doing much prep for it?

Cheers, I have been doing a bit. Will try the bleep test out this week. Have you found out muct about the raf firefighter history? If so could you send me a link please.

There seems to be a lot of people going for the role. I wonder if they only select the best or if you pass the require mark you get in... mmm

Just do as much as you can mate, the better prepared you are your going to stand a better chance of getting through! Have you practiced hose rolling? If not I recommend that you do, just to get the technique right for the day. Just give it everything you've got, they are looking for people who have determination and won't quit!

The only info I have really found is on rafanddfsa.co.uk

Hope this helps John! Best of luck mate!

Hi, I will be attending manston on the 12th also so it will be good to meet you all. It sounds like we are all in the same boat which has settled my nerves slightly! I will be traveling from Salisbury tomorrow.

    Hi all,
I will also be going to Manston for my tests on the 12th of May and will be arriving around 5ish off the train from Derby.
My fitness should be good and i've been training with my local fire men as regards to the hose run etc. I'm just worried about the written assessment and 5 minute speech...does anyone know what the speech will be on?

    Hi dean!

The AFCO office contacted me yesterday saying I'd been recommended for FF training and was awaiting dates, then got an e mail this morning saying potential joining dates are 14th Nov and 7th Jan!

Got my fingers crossed for you guys, really good group of people!

    All the best, Brett

    Hi guys!

Really happy for you both, great news that you got through! Congratulations guys!!! Was a great group of people down there.

I know what you mean though, was surprised when the e mail came through after he said two wks wait.

What's this interview about? I spoke to Tez earlier and he said he had passed but has got to do another interview! Strange as I have only been told about 3 days at Halton and then training!?!

Hope to see you guys around Halton!

    Brett
