Acne

How bad does acne have to be for you to consult your GP?

I've had acne (on my chest, back and face) for as long as I can remember but it's never been horrendously bad. It gets worse just before my period and improves a little bit afterwards but it's always there.

Compared to what some people have, I don't suppose it's that bad so I don't feel like I have much of a right to complain. However, I'm 17 now and fed up of being a spotty teenager. I've become quite conscious of it lately even though I don't think it's gotten any worse recently.

I've used a lot of different things - from brands like Clearasil, Clean & Clear, etc. to Avon and Boots' own brand products - but nothing seems to have made much of a difference.

Can you recommend anything?

I suppose I don't want to waste anyone's time.

I think you should go to your GP as they can give you cream for your acne on prescription. Ones containing Benzoyl Peroxide are especially good

Goodluck!

Visit your local pharmacist and ask for Quinoderm, 10% B.P.

Your G.P. probably will not hesitate to prescribe you anti-biotics; these are worthwhile, at least as a precursor (or pre-requisite) to more intensive treatment, but probably will not achieve lasting results.

I recommend Panoxyl Aquagel, which you get on prescription from your GP. You can get it in varying strengths according to how bad your acne is and it contains Benzoyl Peroxide which apparently helps get rid of acne.
