Quitting before finishing my training period?

I've just got a job today working on the production lines at McVities (through a temping agency). They've told me that the training period least six weeks, and that the job is until the end of December. Thing is, I'll be going to uni in five and a half weeks, which I didn't tell them, because they would have employed me otherwise. I've checked my contract, and it says I can terminate my employment without any prior notice, but if I do this, will theyh expect me to renumerate them for any of the training they've provided? I'm sure I've heard of it being done in other jobs, but I wouldn't have thought they'd be too fussed about a worker on a temporary contract in a factory?

Just wanting some reassurance really. If anyone has had any similar experience, that would be really helpful!

If it doesn't mention renumeration in the contract, then they can't charge you. Check it very carefully with a highlighter handy

To be honest, there is little they can do if you quit. If there is nothing stated in the contract, then chances are you're safe.

i'd advise not putting this job on your CV though. i can't imagine they'd give a very good reference..

Well if they are alright with it...by all means...put it on the CV and show you attended training for it...with your valid reason of starting uni...

yes but if you're not telling them i'm sure they'll be slightly annoyed that they invested cash in someone who dropped out before the job actually started

Yeah, I was in two minds about whether to bother having it on my CV, as I'm not going to be there for long. And I'm not too sure that this training period will actually all be training. From what they've said it sounds like I'll just be working like everyone else in the place, and the "training period" is an excuse to pay me less money.

Lol, nice bit of forethought went into that job then

^ most likely the case.

i don't have anything remotely constructive to add to this post... but do you get any of the misshapes?

Sadly no. The staff shop used to sell loads of biscuits (not misshapes, proper ones) for dirt cheap, but then they got some other company in to run the shop and now they don't sell biscuits anymore. Which is a bit odd seeing as it's a biscuit factory.
