Does SJA count as Volunteering?

Hi
I'm in year 12 now and i hope to apply for medicine. I was just wondering whether volunteering with St. John's Ambulance counts as a substitute for volunteering in a care home or with children as i am currently a member of SJA and i haven't had any luck trying to find a place at a care home. I know how important volunteering is to a medical application and i was just wondering whether SJA is an alternative

thanks
St. John's Ambulance is a suitable voluntary opportunity, yes. It's by no means necessary to volunteer in a care home or anything - they're just looking to see that you've explored medicine as a career and know what it's like to work with the diseased, disabled or disadvantaged.
No offence to the SJA lot, but I swear to christ I've never met so many people who could probably receive a formal aspergers diagnosis in one setting. That experience alone probably has to count for something.
