It's more economical to just plug them into a power socket. The lead can usually be found protruding from one of the larger orifices.

My one has solar panels built into her head, so it's more of a case of just sticking her outside in the sunshine to turn her on. It's well good.

I fear that wouldn't work in Scotland. I know that you can find coal operated girls in some of the more backward places in Aberdeenshire.

Ah yes. The Aberdeenshire models are famously difficult to turn on, possibly because the "On" switch is often hard to operate. I blame the Aberdeenshire male operators :p:
