Severe Stomach Cramp

There is no point posting anonymously....

For a couple of weeks now, everytime i eat, be it a snack or a large meal, i've suffered from really bad stomach cramp

It's really painful and i often have to sit down or make a quick visit to the toilet....

Can anybody sympathise or help me on this? I've looked up on NHS Direct and Lactose Intolerance seems a likely reason. But any help will be duly appreciated!
I experienced this a while back .. like sometimes you feel you can't actually walk?

It seems to have gone for me now, I don't know what I did/changed for them to stop.

If they persist, I would certainly go to the doctor, just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, i've booked an appointment, i'm going tomorrow. Im in bed now because it's really painful!
It sounds similar to what I had.

Good luck at the doctors, I'm sure it's just something simple - let us know how you get on

maybe drinking some hot mint tea might help.
i find it helps when my stomach hurts sometimes. i think its meant to be good for stomach problems or digesting or whatever
sometimes my stomach hurts after ive eaten but i dont think its the same thing.
my appetite seems to have shrunk and i get full up after like taking a few bites out of something

ahhh now i'm no doctor but i had this, it was ibs! worth checking out. in my case it is dairy that makes me cramp so bad that i feel like i can't walk, and the loo visits are frequent i suppose! other people often find it's gluten. just see what happens after you eat those two sorts of food  try hot water bottles etc, the usual cramp relievers! don't worry about it being ibs either (if that is indeed what it is!), it's not too much of an issue, you just avoid certain things and it gets a lot easier! i hope you aren't feeling utterly crippled! *hugshugs*

basically it's the name they give to any bowel irritation that can't be justified. as my doctor put it: "if we stretched out your insides, we wouldn't see anything wrong with it, but there just is!". if something has irritated your insides, they will become inflamed and that could be what is causing you cramps!

it could of course be a problem that actually has a name, ibs is a bit wishy washy if you ask me. in ten years maybe there will be an actual name for it. everyone seems to have ibs to an extent, with foods that make them feel a bit off...

i hope for your sake its not IBS. trust me, i've had it since i was 10, anything you need to know just ask me lol

lots of things can actually trigger stomache cramps; food intolerances, a stomach upset, even stress can affect the gut. if the problem persists (and your doctor will probably advise you to do the same) keep a food diary and see if theres a pattern with your eating. sometimes it's just one thing in your meals, for example, you could be wheat intolerant, or gluten, or as you've identified lactose (would you believe its all three for me? :frown:).

good luck with your doctors appointment (if thats the right phrase to say)

Thanks people...really appreciate it. Wish my mother felt the same way, her 'shut up and get on with it' comment's aren't going down well.

argh ffs i think you replied to one of my posts, which may.. or perhaps not have been anonymous (busted if it was! whoops :p:) concerning my mother's attitude towards my gut issues. she persists with cooking lactose filled meals, despite me not being able to, or wanting to eat them. thinks i'm being pathetic and that i'm almost making it up. she's also convinced her IBS (non-diagnosed or even identified by a doctor...) is worse than mine...

ah mothers, they're great aren't they? while mine cooks me separate meals with usually no problems, she can't help but throw in a couple of comments if my stomach flares up 'well if you hadn't have eaten...' or once during an argument she told me my IBS was 'getting a little tiring for her'. yeah, coz its a walk in the park for me

noo i posted as anon! i meant i busted myself there, which was obviously a clever thing to do..

mothersmothersmothers. irritating. she thinks allergies are stupid too. i'm quite obviously allergic to wasps, which i found out the hard way. she thought i was lying and had just done something i didn't want to tell her about. despite being covered in rashes and other nasties. "my daughter doesn't have allergies!!" was the phrase. just to clear up... i have athsma, hayfever, wasp allergies and i'm allergic to dairy. clearly allergy free.
