Cerazette use

Right I've been given Cerazette by my doctor, and its the first time I've used any type of contraceptive pill. I asked her when I should start it and she said on the first day of my next period, but my periods can be very irregular, plus I just finished bleeding last week. She said if I didn't take it on the first day of my next period then I couldn't rely on it for "quite a while." So when I got home I looked in the leaflet and it says I can take it at any time in my cycle, but I won't be protected for 2 days. So would it be ok to take it straight away, as long as I use other protection for a while?

Also, I'm a bit worried about the fact that it might stop my periods altogether. Surely that is dangerous, because I thought you needed to have at least 3 periods a year, and that's why when you take the combined pill you have to stop for a week so you can bleed?

Any advice/experience welcomed! Thanks

As with any pill, the general advice is if you start at a point in your cycle which isn't your first day, use condoms for the first 7 days, after which it'll be fine.

As for periods, if they do stop completely, don't worry, nothing bad will happen. If you have any worries then go back to your GP.

hello i used to take cerazette and the 7day rule is correct, if you dont take it on thefirst day of your period then use another form of contraception for 7 days. bleeding later becomes very light and may stop completely so it makes it difficult to calculate exactly when your period should be. this isnt harmful as periods return to normal shortly after you stop taking it
