I'm currently at university and I'm looking into applying for the Navy medical cadetship and I just have a few questions:

Is the 6 years service after FY1 or FY2 year?
If you just want to do the 6 years service, can you leave while mid-specialist training and carry on in the NHS or do you have to stay until you've specialised? (some specialties will take longer than 6 years)
What's the male:female ratio like of Navy MOs, is it 50:50?
How hard is it to obtain a medical cadetship, I've seen some that say they're desperate for MOs and others which say they're super hard to get?

And just what the general feeling towards medical cadetships are really.

Thanks

Also, how is easy is it to get into the NHS after being a military doc? Do they regard it in a positive or negative light?

Military docs spend a lot of their time working in NHS hospitals alongside their NHS counterparts. That's where the majority of the military medicine is practiced. The difference comes when a RN doc is aboard ship and is the Ship's Surgeon while at sea or with military personnel deployed overseas on operations or exercise.
Most military medical personnel REALLY WANT to do their job in uniform. It isn't something they usually look at doing and think 'yeah - that looks OK'. It's doing what NHS staff do, and then the extra that makes up being in the military.

There are specialist recruitment teams in each of the 3 Services. Find them and talk directly to them. They are best placed to answer your questions.
