Questions about extenuating circumstances?

Ok, so I have a friend who is incredibly talented and hard working (she got all A*s at GCSEs despite missing school for ulcerative colitis (which she had to be hospitalised at points for). During Easter her dad had a heart attack and she didn't revise "enough". As a result she's now INCREDIBLY stressed - to the point whenever we do a past paper in class she can't read because she's so panicky, and so she hasn't completed any of them.
Obviously she'll get extenuating circumstances - but we're worried she won't even be able to complete/start some of her exams due to the anxiety, and the same thing will happen that's happened class. If she does REALLY badly (like 0s on some exams) will extenuating circumstances stretch far enough?

The maximum amount of special consideration you can get is 5% I'm afraid

She would have to resit the exams the next year, but universities would take account of the extenuating circumstances anyway.

Thanks - she got two weeks early study leave, and some professional help, and all seems to be going OK now!
