Short Introduction - Address the concept of leisure and consumption perhaps a definition.
Paragraph/Big Idea 1
TOPIC SENTENCE: along the lines of 'Postmodernism as a perspective argues that patterns of leisure and consumption are the most significant factor in determining Identity'
EXPLAIN: Address the postmodernist school of thought that Identity is now shaped by an individual's own leisure and consumption choices which has been made allowable through globalization as we are now able to 'pick and mix' our identities based on such choices.
EVALUATE: Talk about the strengths but mostly weaknesses of post modernism
I, myself would then go on to develop 2 additional paragraphs as a counter argument to the preposition that the shaping of identity is mainly concerned with leisure. I would choose Marxism, which of course argues that an individual's social class is their main source of identity and then perhaps Feminism which would argue that gender is actually an individuals main source of identity. With both paragraphs, set them out in a similar way as shown with postmodernism and incorporate evidence such as sociologists and their studies and/or statistics throughout. Then finally write a conclusion summarizing your arguments and come to a judgement as to whether or not leisure really is the factor most concerned with shaping an individual's identity.
Hope this helps and good luck! :-)
