why do i have sooo many SPOTS

Hey,
Sorry about posting as anonymous but I just don't want to be known as the spotty freak on TSR lol.
I'm sixteen years old and I feel like I have so many spots, I don't have acne or anything but I still feel like a spotty freak. My mum won't let me wear makeup to cover them up either. I hate it so much. I feel so self conscious about them, i have them on my cheeks, nose, forehead and chin...so basically all over my face!! Does anyone know how I can get rid of them completely??
Also, they kind of fluctuate depending on the time of the month...so just before and during my period I hardly have any...and then other times of the month...its like BAM...SPOT CITY!! sorry about this long thread and sorry if I have made you throw up...:frown:

This site prescribes Benzoyl Peroxide gel. Look at the info and give it a go. I've been using the stuff for a couple of years now, and it gets rid of all of my spots (when I use it regularly).

Twice a day at most is ideal, unless of course you get pen or dirt on ur face or something.

So you have spots, but you don't have acne? Do you mean massive pores? Coz any kind of red, inflamed spot on a teenage face is usually acne. Blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules and certain kinds of cyst all count.

You patently do.

Regardless, in furtherance to jpowell's recommendation.

It must be down to your hormones so there's not a whole lot you can do. Getting hold of a cream from with benzoyl peroxide in it will help a lot, thats one of the best things. Try drinking more water and see what happens.

Hey no worries, this sort of thing can get a bit confusing.

Well, it could be rosacea, that's more like a rash, increased redness in patches on the face, it's itchy and makes you more likely to blush.

Or maybe folliculitus, that looks like a tiny bump on a larger patch of red skin. It looks more "spread out" and less defined than an acne spot.

Or, very rarely on the face, Keratosis Pilaris. Most people get these on the back of their arms. It's like permanent goosebumps that are red and sometime have a white tip. They are pretty stable, and can hang around for ages. They don't normally hurt or itch very much.

I'm no expert, so theses are the only ones I can think of. Don't give up looking, if your GP can't diagnose it, ask to be referred to a dermatologist, who almost definitely will be able to.

Well done, here's your doctorate in curing acne.

OP, how old are you? Surely your mom can't stop you wearing make up?

You just need to drink lots of water and generally sort out your skin with cleansers, toners, spot treatments etc. You can also go to the doctors, who will prescribe you medication for your skin, if it is bad enough!

I decided a few months ago that spots are actually amazing, and people are wrong when they dispute this.

I feel better about my spots now.

Drinking lots of water is v. good advice, but using too many products (some would say that's anything more than a fragrance-free cleanser) could make your skin a lot worse. If I were you I'd just want to find out what it is first, then decide how to treat it. It might even be that your allergic to something your using on your skin at the mo.
