I had ankle pains after running and somebody told me it was shin splints or something, so it might be that but I don't really know.

iv no idea, but if i was you i would go get it checked out and ease off from the running - you dont wana damage it further! hope its beter soon :smile:
Are you warming up properly?
What surface are you running on? What sort of distances and times?

You need to cut out for now, and maybe get some good insoles.

runnin on a road for about twenty minutes at a time

i use to get this before i went running but i found if i rotated (circled) my ankles for a bit to warm them up before running i didnt have this problem any more.

Warming up is the most important part of exercise. If you don't do it, you might as well not run at all, for all the good it'll do.
