Actuarial Sci @ LSE is a great Course for pretty much any job in finance. I would definitely go there if i were u. Actuarial Sci Maybe More recognized at certain unis but.....LSE 's generally more recognized ,in the world of Finance ,than any other uni in the uni In UK (apart from Oxbridge of course).

It's really a question of what you prefer. LSE is obviously great to have on your CV but the course is not great. There isn't even an actuarial department...it's all part of the statistics department. If you are dead set on becoming an actuary and would like to do the best course there is and want the experience of good lecturers then you should choose City. Kent is pretty good too but City is renowned for it's Actuarial degree. If you think you might work in the City later on in a different capacity then LSE would probably be a good choice.

Good luck.

U know what yeh, i think ur absolutely rite!! I think City is the best in terms of becoming a 'pure' actuary coz they even offer the chance to study an MSc to help u pass the latter stages of the Actuaries exam series (i think it's the 300 series)........basically if u come out of City having done the 4yr ActSci degree (including the MSc) ur almost there!!!! BUT those who haven't got their hearts set on becoming an actuary i.e. me, probably have opted for LSE coz the higher-ranked city jobs usually lure LSE grads. I've put down LSE ActSci as my insurance choice, Oxford as Firm for maths, what about u??

City, i'd say, would be ur best bet! They offer a 1 year MSc course in which they'll gear u up for the 300 series, i think..........!!!!! I'm not too sure on Kent but the name isn't very well known to me which is why i'm a bit lacking on the uni. I don't know much about the US courses so i wouldn't know.........but certainly on the evidence of many people of whom i've talked to that are in the actuarial profession they have suggested City.
iam a final yr maths student of university of east anglia, but iam so wonderring to study in london uni when i do master.Risk and Stochastics is a new subject in LSE.anyone know something about this?

Thanks for that. Which other unis offer an MSc in actuarial science. City has never seemed a highly regarded university to me, and i would prefer to go to universities such as LSE, UCL, Harvard, Yale etc. Is city even in the same league? It just seems if i want to do an MSc in actuarial science, that I will have to go to a well known university, whereas, i worked really hard to get into Durham, and now im going to city for my masters. I hope i dont sound bigheaded.

What i understand is, that the course LSE does covers the 100 series of the actuarial examinations.. City offer either the chance to study the 100 series or 300 series at a diploma level, and then the masters degree is given after a dissertation. Kent offers just the 300 series. If you have studied maths at a degree level, you will be exempt from quite a few of the 100 series, i think im exempt from about 5 of the 10 exams in the 100 series. City is by far the best, LSE dont even have an actuarial department. Kent is pretty good too. Applied to kent so far, applying to city this week for sept 2005 entry. If you need any further help, email me at [email protected]
Hope that helps you out.
Sorry, this is a very remedial thing to say, but........how do you pronounce 'actuarial'....I'd never heard of it before i applied to LSE
I've only heard guys at school pronounce the term - and they pronounce it "Ac-tu-arrr-ial". So with an "R" sounding stress in the middle, rather than an "Air" sounding stress.

But this is just going on hearsay.

HEY ALL

Looking for some advice. Im an unsure whether to apply to study the 100 or the 300 series for my MSc. City offer both, whilst LSE offer just the 100 series, and Kent offer just the 300 series. I will exmepted from about 5 of the 10 100 series exams, due to my degree. Should i complete the 100 series during for MSc, or complete the 300 series? I am applying for September 2005

althought i was/will be going to study Investment and Financial Risk Management at City/Cass i do recall a lot of hype over their acturial department, it is ranked number one in the uk.

Look, I'm starting to get really fed up of you, my little ethnic retard. Whenever a thread has the misfortune of playing host to your idiotic posts you never cease to harp on and on and on about how City beats Oxbridge-LSE in your chosen subject area.

YOU'RE A DELUDED LITTLE TWAT WHO COULDN'T GET INTO OXBRIDGE-LSE.

Thank you.
