Overnight guests...

Hello all, a questions here specifically relating to Manchester Uni.

Me and my beloved will be going to different unis Sept 07 (we've been together 4 years so should still be together!)

Manchester Uni policy is no overnight guests except in exceptional circumstances agreed by a tutor.

Well, a girl's got to have what a girl's got to have...as I'm sure you can understand. So how will I ever have my boyfriend sleep over?! 'Hi, nice tutor-man, I could really do with some sex...'

Seriously, are they really that strict? Which places (halls) are the least strict?

Han xx

Basically, unless your at a collegiate university (Oxford, Cambridge, Durham), nobody cares and nobody checks.

Have fun now.

I've never ever heard of anyone at my uni having any problems. My best mate's place said guests have to be signed in and out, but I stayed there loads without signing in or out!

Lol they say no overnight guests, but noone ever takes any notice of that. In Durham halls you just have to notify someone in charge because of fire safety regulations and it's quite easy to skip even that if you dodge the porters. Some unis have a time restriction, say no more than a week, that guests can stay over, and some provide guest rooms where you have to pay to have them stay.

I've no idea about Manchester, but I'm sure nobody ever checks anyway! Just have your boyfriend over and enjoy!:p:

I never even considered the idea that places would have a problem with my bf or sis's staying over. :hmmmm:

And even then they don't, given I essentially lived in my girlfriend's college room in my first year as it was nearer both lectures and my own college's hall than my room.
I've never heard of that.

Why would you need permission from a tutor? Tutors simply teach you. Then they go home and have nothing to do with you when you're at your accommodation.

mine says no overnight guests and if you're going to be away for a nigh you have to let them know incase of a fire

I think it's the halls manager that you mean rather than tutor?

Mine says the odd night over is ok, I'm guessing no more than like 4-5 days or someone will notice. I'm in a similar situation, I'm going to Sheffield and my boyfriend is going to Nottingham.

I stayed over at my friends room at Durham university and no-one paid us any attention. Even when she insisted on sneaking us into the dining hall (she's catered) no-one batted an eyelid. I felt guilty about that though..

I think they'll just worried about people subletting their rooms out to people. Well they made it very clear in my contract/information. Not that I would of course.

My mate Alex's girlfriend lived with him for the entire first year. She wasn't even a student; she was working in a bar in town.

After 4 years we'd be buggered if we hadn't sorted that out my now!

I stayed with two friends this year, in Kent and Surrey, both for 3 nights, no problem.
I think in general it's a no, but as everyones saying, they don't check! As long as if there is a fire alarm - you take them out the building with you, it's all good

If you use the search thing there was a good thread on this exact topic a few weeks back i think,it'll tell you what you want to know. And for what it's worth i think you'll be pleased, from what i remember people said most halls are lenient and allow guests as long as its not every other night.Hope this helps!

i think theres some council tax thing where u cant have guests staying more than 3 nights a week or u'd be liable for council tax?! we were told something like that when we moved in but i didnt listen! had 4 ppl staying in my room for 3 weeks lol
no1 noticed!

ALTHOUGH... the halls said u had to sign them in and out and the flats (beside the halls... still uni residences) they werent bothered about! so you could party as much as you wanted lol
From what I've seen of it, manchester is fine with it.
