What are the products when Ethanal reacts with Potassium Dichromate? - HELP

Need help for an assignment.

What would be made adding H+/K2Cr2O7 to ethanol with distillation, what would happen if you refluxed it, instead?

I need the products for a reaction between ETHANAL and POTASSIUM DICHROMATE within a reflux reaction.

Well ethanal is an aldehyde and acidified K2Cr2O7 is an oxidising agent, so think what happens when an aldehyde is oxidised?

I know what you asked for. I was trying to answer your question without just stating the answer, hopefully leading to understanding rather than just recall.

Do you know the answers to my questions?
You will get ethanoic acid as the only product

First ethanol oxidises to ethanal then it oxidises further to ethanoic acid.

So it follows that if you just start with ethanal...

Thanks, what are the predicted products for Propanol and LiAlH4?

LiAlH4 is a reducing agent, what could you reduce an alcohol to?

Did you mean propanal?
