As the European Elections draw closer in real life, I think it's time we began preperations for our own mock election.

You have until 6PM on May 17 to submit a manifesto.

    Timetable
Day 0 (May 12) House is notified of election and asked to submit manifestos.
Day 5 (May 17 evening) The election opens.
Day 10 (May 22 evening) The election closes and the results are announced.

    Manifesto content
Manifestos must fit the following criteria:

Manifestos submitted must be less than 250 words and may not contain videos or audio clips unless created by a member of the party in question. The Speaker will cut the manifesto at the 250 word mark if they go over.
All words typed or spoken within the manifesto will be counted (this excludes the 20 word tagline).
Videos and audio clips will be removed before textual content is until the word limit is met.
Manifestos can include up to 2 images.
Manifestos are allowed a 20 word tagline.

Both parties and independents can run in this election. As there was no objection in the discussion thread, I think we should be using the following groupings:

    TSR Labour: (S&D)
    TSR Liberals: (ALDE)
    TSR Greens: (Grn-EFA)
    TSR Tories: (ECR)
    TSR Socialists: (GUE-NGL)
    TSR UKIP: (EFD)
TSR Libertarians: Their choice of backing one of the groupings or going non-inscrit. If they back the same grouping as someone else, they'll need permission .

Independents can then have the same choice as the Libertarians. Choose a political group (out of those above, and the EPP) or go non-inscrit.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask them in here. I expect that there will be quite a few since we've never done this before. I'm running it similar to a general election but there's a lot less set in stone so we'll have to just go with the flow and make it up as we go along

    Good luck.

I will follow the example of the RL Monster Raving Loony Party and not take part, assuming a virtual £5k deposit is needed.

I look forward to questioning the parties and any independent candidates.

I think these elections make no sense in light of the fact that we assume that the EUP and its laws do not exist and legislate in many ways that specifically deny that authority of the EUP.

I intend to stand as an independent representing Sinn Féin, working with the Socialists as part of the European United Left.

Will the ballot have people voting for parties representing groups or groups endorsed by parties and independents.

The later would prevent split voting.

Shouldn't we have separate forums then for each EU party, take Rakas and Saoirse for instance. What if, say, the Socialists, plus 10 others from various parties want to support the same group? Wouldn't it be wiser to have an independent forum for each group that anyone could request to join?

More forums are not an option. I'm sure the ECR won't mind if they and the EPP get to spy on each other since were all Tories anyway.

Yeah, this will work far better if we have groups endorsed by parties rather than the other way,

That way the ballot can say..

EUL - Endorsed by Socialists and Labour MP Saoirse
EPP - Endorsed by Conservative MP's Rakas and Cryptographic

I think you may have to restrict the length of names on the ballot paper, especially if A Jones endorsed by the people of Llanfairpwllgwyngochrndrobwlllla ntisiliogogogoch and independent MP Tarquin Flintimwhimbinbusstopftangftango lebiscuitbarrel were to stand.

I will not be standing in this at all- I shall be sitting. Joking aside, I'm not touching this with a barge poll.

Yeah I think that's the best way of handling it too and it shouldn't be too much of a problem, I've done a bit of testing: I can fit 255 characters into each poll option which should be more than enough to fit those kinds of details in.

We have to be very mindful about which extra subforums we set up. It's hard enough to justify all of the subforums we already have which is why we're already very strict on party openings - we can't justify setting any up for a 10 day election that has no meaning and will probably only net a few posts in each one. I think that since this is basically just a little extra event that we're holding on the side, any issues of privacy are basically irrelevant. Everyone's aware of the risks and since it counts for nothing, they won't have any actual effect.

Cool. It'll be interesting to see how this differs from the usual MHoC election campaigns.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see how much all of the results differ too, not just from our usual elections, but also from real life. I think this is the first time we've held anything in conjunction with a real election for a good few years, probably since 2010, so there can probably be some interesting comparisons on that.

    Cheers.

Thanks. Yeah it's good, I'm enjoying it

Exactly this and I would like to declare my opposition to this election. When I was in UKIP, we were being told that our referendum on EU is pointless, or that the whole party is pointless since MHoC does not rely on EU legislation in any way, so I guess we should act like it, then.

Did you therefore privately object to Ukip's prior attempts to hold a referendum in recent parliaments?
