I was just wondering what the major differences between the two courses are. I've been accepted into both but I can't decide which one to take.

If anyone is currently in either, I'd love to hear your opinions!

    Hi Gabrielle,

Digital Film & Screen Arts has a more Fine Art focus than Film Production, which is a much more all-rounder course. Additionally, the Film Production course is built around working in teams of students to produce films. DFSA doesn't require you to work in a team, you could work individually.

I would have a look at the types of work that are produced by the courses though. Have you had a chance to visit the Graduation Show on campus? You can see the Final Major Projects from both couses.

    Thanks,
    Emma

    Hello

im currently a student on DFSA but lived with 7 film student last year so i can give you a bit of info on both.

DFSA you get to experience all aspects of film production, ie in one task you can be a producer in next you might be on camera so you get to experience a bit of everything. We arent a triditional film making course though we focus more on the creative side of things and get to do some very experimental things. A long side film making we do photography, after effects, 3d animation, interactivity and sound design.

The first few projects we did were learning the basics of tradition film making ie angles frame rate etc then in the second term be did purely experiemental videos so got to do some really crazy things.

next year ( 2nd year ) we will be doing another triditional short film as well as music video and things like that

like every course you will have to do essays.
were mostly group based work how ever some projects like after effects and photography are idividual work

Film production is more of a triditional course, most people going into film production know exactly what job role they want to do ie producer so focus on that for the 3 year to become the best at that

they do 2 eassays each term as well as 1 5-10 min film each term as well as doing things like script writing. i cant give really tell you in detail what theyre lessons are like becuase ive never been to one obs but there class is much larger than ours we only have about 25 people and they have about 120 people so have larger groups to work in

its hard to compare the 2 courses really as they are so different

but if you are interested in more of a more creativly free course, focusing alot on the editing side or want to get into short experimeant films or adverts or music videos then dfsa would be more for you

where as if your interested in improving yourself in a certion job role wanting to get into to tradtion film / tv then film sounds more for you

    hope that helped

if you want any more info post on here and someone will help you out https://www.facebook.com/groups/ucafarnhamfreshers/
