Exercise bikes

OK, I always thought owning your own exercise bike was massively pointless: why not run around outside. But my brother bought a cheap one from Argos, which sits in front of his TV, and it seems that I can burn 600 calories while watching the OC and Friends, and sometimes up to 1000 in a single day if I do more. Suddenly, slacking and weight loss are friends. Which is always good. Of course, the calories lost dial may be lying, but let's hope not. And I am pretty constantly sweating and slightly out of breath for the whole hour and a half, which can't be bad. This seems to be free exercise without any psychological effort of getting up to go running. And being saddle sore is not as bad as blistering my feet, which can happen if I run.

Am I missing something, or is this really the greatest invention of all time?

Or give the girlfriend a call.
In my case, she lives hundreds of miles away in the holidays. Otherwise a good plan: that's how I lost a stone in the first year of uni despite drinking every night....
I would think that if you can pay attention to the TV while riding, you probably aren't cycling at any great intensity.

I'm not. If I was I couldn't go for an hour and a half.

In terms of feeling out of breath, it's more intense than a brisk walk. But doesn't touch jogging.
