It would seem that I would work out the acute angle whereas the answer has the obtuse one, so is the drawing I made wrong, if so how?

It's not to scale. If you look at the vectors a,b, you'll see that their lengths are 3, 2rt(3) respectively. So, OB is a longer side than OA.
