Just curious if anyone is sitting this exam tomorrow and what questions/topics will show up. I'm doing Urban (section A) Energy (section A) Tourism (Section B).

I did this exam last year and I think it was easier this year. But yeah I agree I'm so f**cked off they redid the same question as last year especially since last years question was such a stupid one. How did you find everything else apart from the tourism essay?

Rural
The first question I just described how the left side has poor infrastructure and a high density, along with what seemed to be waste water running in the street so poor sanitation and how the right side had low density good building infrastructure (space for swimming pool and tennis courts) There was also no signs of waste or poor sanitation

Second question I said that this might be a divide between urban and urban fringe or suburban area and more investment and therefore development had been put into the right side

I thought that commercial services meant like shops, so I answered the question using political (greenbelts and brownfield sites) and economic (only large cooporations can afford to locate in CBDs and this leads to more shops and services being located in CBDs-multiplyer effect)

The urban essay I used Mumbai as a case study and talked about environmental (waste not being collected and contaminated water supplies leading to diseases) social (increased road traffic accidents due to congestion and poor road planning and maintenance) and economic (less job available leading to poverty)

Energy

The first question I said there was a direct positive correlation between increased energy use and GNI and then quoted figures and talked about an anomaly

Second question I wrote about how as affluence increases people spend more money on time saving energy intensive appliances. And how as industry grows more energy is used which creates more GNI leading to further development of industry until the country progresses along the DTM and they then begin to use time saving appliances

Third question I said about how as energy resources are exploited this generate revenue and this can be invested into services in the community and said about how Norway has one of the best welfare systems in the world due to the exploitation of north sea oil and gas

For the essay I wrote about the Alberta tar sands in Canada, water contamination (acid mine drainage and sedimentation killing organisms) Air pollution causing global climate change and acid rain. habitat loss (large areas of forest cleared leading to loss of habitats and fragmentation leading to isolated communities and a reduced gene pool)

Tourism

I laughed a little in the exam hall and got a stern look from the invigilator, this for me was a shocking question last year and I couldn't believe it made an appearance this year but never the less.

I started by saying what global tourism was then said that human population has reached 7.1 linking to more holidays

First paragraph was about affluence and how as a country becomes more developed they can afford to go on holiday and how as a country becomes more developed they can invest in the infrastructure for tourism (Jamaica jamaicanisation case study used here to talk about increase in foreign revenue)

Second paragraph about more relaxed political controls (china and how they have approved destination sites ,uk in 2005) and (myanmar increasing tourism efforts)

Third paragraph about advertising and how this influences peoples decisions on where to go (trivago,lastminute.com used..not sure why I did though )

Fourth paragraph people have more spare time due to paid holidays and people are taking early retirement and can go on holiday

conclusion there are a varying range of reasons tourism has increased globally and could this be a possible way to help LEDC countries progress etc etc

I completely forgot if for the short essay questions I was supposed to do a conclusion so last 5 minutes I left a note to the examiner to look at the back additional pages where I'd written a conclusion for both.

Sorry about the mega long post just wanted to see if I'd talked a load of B**loc*s
