Stretch Marks - Is this normal for a 16year old girl?!

I always thought only older people got stretch marks. However i'm 16 and have had really ugly red stretch marks around my thighs and bum simce I was 14!
It has never really bothered me but now I want to wear a bikini on holiday and I think it just looks ugly. I am quite slim in my upper body (size 8) however have quite big hips, bum and thighs (size 10-12). Could weight gain in this area have caused this?

What causes stretch marks?
How do I get of them? Shall I try and lose weight or do some special exercise? Is there any creams that do actually work as I wouldn't want to waste money?
Thanks x x
it sounds normal and there is something cant remember what it is now that gets rid of it but you can remove them some sort of bio oil i think

It's pretty normal, lots of girls get stretch marks durning puberty.
Palmers do a lotion or oil that helps get rid of them tho they do fade in time by themselves.

i have some stretch marks but its really weird. i've not gained any weight, if anything with some training i've been doing a bit of muscle, but i haven't been working out excessively at all, infact i'm actually very lazy, so i dunno.. but i assume they're normal.

people can get them by losing weight pretty quickly/
Totally normal. They often are caused when you have had a growth spurt and your skin hasnt had time to stretch out properly as you grow. You can get rid of them either by waiting for them to fade naturally or you can help it with Bio-Oil (available in Superdrug) or any number of other products. Just head to Boots and ask the people behind the medications desk for some suggestions. They should knw.

actually its gaining weight that causes them. because u actually do just stretch the skin hence stretch marks. its loose skin that occurs wen they lose weight.

no offence in correcting just didnt want anyone to worry about losing weight aswell. we have enough posts about people worrying about gaining weight. LOL
Actually, zafda is right. You can get stretch marks either by gaining or losing weight, although I'm not sure why.

To the OP:

The good news is that nearly everyone has them. When I was your age I had them on my inner thighs and they really bothered me, but there's nothing you can do about them and they do fade with time. Mine have faded to pale silvery marks now, and although you can still see them a bit, who cares?

One thing you can do is make sure you use a good body moisturiser as part of your daily skincare routine. If your skin has good elasticity, you'll be less likely to get more stretch marks every time you change shape.
That bio oil might be worth checking out actually, if it doesnt work im sueing for false advertising! haha, joking xx

Yes it's normal. i got them from a growth spurt years & years ago (tho my ex still got paranoid that I'd had a baby as a kid or something  ) & they've stuck with me. They fade with time & creams like palmers do help, to the point that they're not so noticeable, though I doubt they'll ever completely disappear...
o yea i have the same. also round my knees for aaages. my mates used to call them tiger stripes and think they were well kool. im alot more paranoid about them now though!
Nothing really gets rid of them, although they can be faded. They are caused by your body expanding into your skin, stretching it.... and yes, they are perfectly normal for someone of your age. You don't even have to be "fat" to get them.
