Six Pacs

I'm about 5 feet 6 inches tall and I weigh about 48 kgs/106 pounds which I think is underweight. I've been doing quite a lot of abdominal exercise lately and I can get an "Outstanding" according to U.S. Navy Seals standards.

My problem is that I still don't have a visible 6 pack when I'm standing. If I sit down though I can see it but not while standing. I think this is because I might have too much fat on my stomach but I can't exactly go on a weight losing diet or what ever since I'm underweight!

Has anyone have had any similar experiences or can someone give me some advice?

Oh I should have mentioned, I'm male.

Do you know your fat %? The threshold for a visible 6-pack is meant to be 8%.

48kg? I'd get glad you can't see the abdominals, otherwise it would look rather vulgar. My advice: bulk up a little, and then lose the fat covering your stomach, as that's obviously what it is.

Hah, I think not.

Don't lose any more weight to try and get a six pack. I'm the same height as you and about 58 kg, and I have a six pack.

Thats strange. Usually thin people get sixpacks very easily. Just lose the fat around your stomach. Or do slower sit-ups with weights.

I heard it was easier to turn fat into muscle, than trying to "bulk up" from nothing.

Nope, how would I work it out?

"My advice: bulk up a little, and then lose the fat covering your stomach, as that's obviously what it is."

That'd be pointless. When you lose weight, you lose it from the whole body and not just one spot.

I didn't try to lose any weight, that's my natural weight.

You can't turn fat into muscle.

Re: six pack.

I've got a six pack and I weigh around 76kg. I do hanging leg raises, weighted ball crunches, weighted crunches and weighted incline situps. 3X10 of one and then 3X10 of another one (pic n mix). I do this every 3rd day (to get some recovery in). Make sure you 'hold' at the top and squeeze a bit so you can really feel it.

Crap attempt there. I never said nor implied such a thing, so what does it matter?

I heard it was easier to turn lead into gold. Although, technically, it is.

That said, I once saw her pick up a bus whilst searching for the 'twinkie that got away'.
You sound a bit like my brother. Your best bet is to try to eat a lot more, but the foods you eat should contain a lot of protein and carbs so that you can turn the excess fat into muscle. Have you tried protein shakes? In Mens Health magazine they have this good diet plan from someone who was quite light and wanted to gain weight in muscle, with all the exercises he did and everything. Might be worth having a look at it
