Do we need to know the stages of meiosis in BIOL2,
there not in my textbook.

Check the specification. I think at the most, they need the importance of meiosis. Plus there is focus on crossing over, which means you will have to study prophase as well. It would be good to know at least what happens in each stage, even if you don't prepare it thoroughly.

I do not think they will ask about stages in meiosis - that stuff is for mitosis. They may however ask for the purpose/importance and how exactly it gives genetic variation i.e. chiasmata, random assortment

I have never seen a question on the stages but I have seen questions about chromosomal crossover so that is important know which is also a part of meiosis. Obviously the two daughter haploid cells is important to know too as it has come up before.

I do AQA, and I think you need to have an understanding of the stages as there are questions based on gametes and their formation
