Porn addiction...has it ruined my life?

Just to clarify that porn addiction is much more than what it sounds like. It isn't purely a habit of using porn much more often that you should and allowing it to eat into your free time.

I can admit that I always had sexual tastes on the 'stranger' side of the spectrum (which go back a long time) however I'm convinced that I'm bisexual, suggesting I should be able to have sex with females...but I can't. As far as guys go, I haven't tried to, but I don't see how having sex with a guy (giving) would be any different for me.

I'm certainly a lot more attracted to females than males. Desire to have a relationship with a guy is virtually at zero.

What's the problem?

I can't have sex with women despite a desire to.

It is the main source of my depression and it is getting worse.

Has anyone had any experience with porn addiction?

I need to know I can fix this.

How was I to know? I was so young at the time, I had no idea what I was doing to myself. Now I am here, with tears in my eyes, living in a nightmare I cannot wake up from. I feel like I've ruined my life, maybe I have...

I made a recent thread about why people should stop watching porn. And I was ridiculed by what I surmised as porn addicts, much like yourself, I suggest you go cold turkey.
Maybe speak to your doctor?

Hey man, I really recommend the site Your Brain Rebalanced. It talks a lot about how porn addiction can induce ED, and how kicking it will help reverse this and reprogram your mind to seek non-pixellated love

There's nothing wrong with pornography in moderation but if you have a problem the perhaps you should speak to someone about it? Are you using it in an attempt to fill some sort of gap in your life?

Purely going cold turkey isn't really an option. I pretty much need to try and reprogram myself. It isn't a case of I will masturbate instead of going out and finding a girl to have sex with. It is more that if I find a girl to have sex with, I'll not be stimulated enough to be able to have sex, several years of extreme porn which branched more and more into various niches over the years has made 'vanilla sex' as they call it, much less interesting. The fact I currently can't have sex means I can't have a relationship and it has been eating at me for a long time now.

As I said I identify as bisexual, I could technically have sex with guys if I bottomed, but I don't find guys attractive romantically so the thought of a relationship with a male literally depresses me.

Thanks. I really hope it helps. I'm standing on the edge here and I really can't take anymore of this. If I can't end this, sooner or later it is going to end me sadly.

Like I said it isn't a case of watching porn too much, at least not anymore. The problem is the long term damage it has caused to my mental health. The person who first told me about porn addiction put it like this, if a guy only watches anal sex porn, then eventually overtime that person may not be able to have sex other than anal sex.

sad to see a tremendous amount of ignorance in that thread, though I'm attacking it from a mental health angle as opposed to the angle you took which objectifies women...not all porn is like that, you'll find many porns in the BDSM 'genre' which actually have the women dominating the men.

However it does prove that there is a lot of misconceptions that porn is ok and perfectly fine. The fact it is pretty much a taboo makes it worse as people can end up developing some serious mental health issues. For example a rise in sex crimes has been linked to the increased access to free porn, I'm not sure on the details but I assume that would be the likes of rape and pedophilia.

The internet is a fairly new thing relative to the history of porn, so a lot of its consequences are certainly misunderstood and often ignored or ridiculed such as the thread you made, or indeed this thread which as people merely suggesting that by simply ceasing to watch porn will solve my problems which have brought me an extremely depressive and suicidal state.

If kids are watching porn before they even get to sex-education class at school, there will for sure be consequences on their expectations of sex in the real world...though that isn't really what I am trying to deal with in this thread.

The fact that you said this means that frankly your problem is unfortunately beyond the scope of us laymen on TSR and you should really go see a GP about the matter. I wish you all the best; CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) may be good for overcoming an addiction for you

It might be necessary to determine whether this is a porn (substance-induced) depression, or your increased use of porn is a symptom of depression otherwise. I suspect it's the former but only a professional can tell you.

yeah I know, I wasn't really seeking a source of help on here, I've got a few things underway already to try and sort this. I was just trying to see if there was anyone on here who experienced a similar problem. Since it is a problem that is supposedly more prevalent in university aged males I thought this would be a good place to ask.
So find a girl that likes the stuff you like.
