I made this point on another thread, and I thought it was interesting enough to deserve its own thread.
There is an alleged double-standard in terms of men and women going bare-chested in public. It's perfectly acceptable (in beach or hot weather contexts) for a man to go bare-chested, to just wear shorts and flip-flops, whereas it is considered unacceptable or obscene for a woman to do the same (except on, say, a nudist beach).
I wonder whether women would like their bare chest to be seen as the same as a man's bare chest? Obviously many men would like that, but would the women themselves like to abolish this "double standard"?
Being gay myself, I've often wondered about this and about the sexual nature of breasts; would a straight guy perceive a woman's bare chest in the same way I'd perceive a guy's bare bum?
When I was in high school I often saw the other boys' bare bums in the locker room showers and I was able to control myself so it's entirely possible women would be able to go barechested (though I wonder whether some men would ruin it for everyone, with comments and whistles etc
