There are some Japanese radio stations on iTunes. My usual source of Japanese music is from intros/outros to anime series.
My favourite band is Asian Kung-Fu Generation.

Sometimes, foreign music isn't my main thing but I occasionally listen to it.
What I normally do is to search up the band that makes a song I like (normally from anime) and then just click the related videos on YouTube/search them up on Amazon. Asian Kung Fu Generation are amazing!

Listen to Hikaru Utada. She's amazing! & Yui also. My favourite band is One Ok Rock and they sing in English too. Also try out F.T. Island, they're a Korean band who release Japanese music. I haven't really listened to much J-pop etc. but Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is quite big and Perfume are quite good. A lot of K-pop groups have Japanese songs too but I'm not sure what genre you want so just msg me if you want some more. You can find them all on youtube

Japan has a wealth of genres of music, from screamo to Hip-Hop to the oft cited Visual Kei and J-Pop, it's a shame how so much of it is glanced over

If you just want to check out what's popular and new at the moment, maybe check out the "Oricon" or "Billboard" charts to discover potential new artists you might like. =] Those are the mainstream charts in Japan.
Anime are a great source, though personally for me nowadays, I generally discover new artists through drama series, or occasionally through some random news and articles I see. =P
It also depends on what you like as well, some artists are easier to discover than others and for certain genre/artists you kinda need to know where to start off with the searches first. xD
I listen to a huge variety ranging from classical to house, pop to rock, so if you want any recommendations from me, give me a shout!
